The California State Capitol – a photo essay
By Jeremy Branham on Sep 16, 2011 with Comments 32
The California State Capitol kicked off the Explore Sacramento! series last week. There is a lot of history both in the capitol and on the grounds. However, Capitol Park offers something for everyone.
After detailing the monuments, history, flowers, and war memorials last week, this week focuses on the beauty of the State Capitol in photos. So take a look back and enjoy the history and learn more about the California State Capitol or just enjoy the beautiful photos on the grounds throughout Capitol Park.
Whether you explore Sacramento’s history in Old Sacramento or just a walk through the streets of downtown, the California State Capitol building is a beautiful and historic building in the heart of the capital city.
Explore Sacramento! is a series that seeks to discover and explore the sites, sounds, communities, and things to do in Sacramento and northern California.

I have to admit that it is easy to take for granted where you live. Sacramento does have some interesting places and history.
Wow.. everything looks so green! Great photos. I know it’s weird, but I have not spent much time exploring Sac even though I grew up 45 minutes away.

Amazing how places so close to home are some of the hardest to explore. I can say the same about Sacramento as where as where I am from in South Carolina.
Wow that is incredible lush, nice photos.
I actually took those photos in the spring when everything was in green and in bloom. But SHHHH!!! Don’t tell anyone!
Nice collection of photos.

Sacramento looks really beautiful. One of these days we will have a good reason to make there. In the meantime, we have posts like this.

I think Sacramento is easy to get lost in the shuffle with San Francisco, Tahoe, Napa, and the coast all about 100 miles from Sacramento.
This park is one of my favorite places to go in Sacramento. I love to take a long walk there, especially when the rose garden is in full bloom. The variety of trees from around the world is stunning!
These photos were actually taken in the spring when everything was in full bloom. I actually spent an hour just walking the grounds of the capitol, taking photos, and just learning about the history and memorials. I have to admit I learned a lot and enjoyed a beautiful day!

City parks are very underrated. While national and state parks get a lot of love here in the US, the city parks may be some of the best of any in the country. Central Park in NYC comes to mind.
Looks really pretty, but I am waiting for the Folsom photo essay.

With all there is to see and do in California, it’s easy to overlook Sacramento.
Hey Jeremy, that’s a lot of nice pictures there! Makes me wanna buy a ticket and fly back to the USA and explore California. Last time I was there was back in 1999.

Surprisingly, there can be a lot of green areas. Summer does dry things out a bit but there are quite a lot of trees in downtown Sacramento.
Great photo collage. I need to more of these kinds of sets- I like how you can see some many different angles!

Thanks Jade. I took these and had to do its own post because I had so many beautiful ones of the Capitol grounds.
All the times I’ve visited Sacramento it’s never looked like this! But then again I was in the rest of the city and not at the state capitol.
