Celebrating 4th of July with Where in the world am I? And the winner is…

where in the world am i June 29 prize giveaway

Guess the answer to this week's "Where in the world am I?" and win a July 4th prize giveaway!

For this week’s Where in the world am I? travel photo, this week is special.  No, I am not talking about my Southwest airline improvements or airline rants this week.  Here in the US, we celebrate the 4th of July better known as Independence Day – the birthday of America.  In celebration of this national holiday, I am doing something different this week – a free gift certificate to SpaFinder to this week’s winner!

With over 5,000 spas around the world, you can enjoy a relaxing spa or massage wherever you are with this $50 gift card (please note that SpaFinder is not a sponsor or participant in this giveaway).

This week’s where in the world am I? This week I am at a place known for one of the most beautiful views in the world!  Stretching along miles of coast, this viewpoint is located near a famous castle and is the site of many weddings in the area.  The wedding I attended here was a Scottish wedding complete with kilts and bagpipes – but don’t let that fool you!  This particular place is just one of many towns in this famous area where cliffs dot the coastline.  There is even a trail that goes down the face of a cliff.  Although the hike to the beach is only half a mile, there is 400 feet of elevation change.

Do you know where I am?  Are these clues not enough?  Follow along on Facebook and Twitter to get more hints on Wednesday and Thursday so you can leave your guess for the chance to win a $50 gift card at SpaFinder!

  • Leave your guess on the blog only (no Facebook or Twitter guesses allowed) by Thursday, June 30 11:59 PM EST
  • Hints will be given on Twitter and my Facebook fan page throughout the day on Wednesday and Thursday
  • One guess per hint (with each hint, you can leave a new guess)
  • Check out how to participate to win a free entry into the giveaway (see below)

Unfortunately, there is no winner this week as no one was able to identify this week’s photo as Ragged Point, California. So the prize will be carried over to next week’s contest!

A number of people were close as they guessed San Simeon and other towns on the California coast. However, no one could identify the photo as Ragged Point.

Ragged Point, California – This area is one of many towns located along the California coast. Famous for the drive along the Pacific Coast Highway, Ragged Point is located just a few miles from San Simeon – the site of the famous Hearst Castle. While many people visit Hearst Castle every year, not many stop at the many small towns on the drive from San Simeon to Big Sur.

Ragged Point has beautiful views, a restaurant, an inn, and a beautiful location for weddings. The views and the fog remind many of Scotland. And it’s for that reason I discovered this place. I actually was here as part of a Scottish wedding I was attending. However, for those that aren’t here for nuptials but want to take a bold step, you can hike down the 1/2 mile trail with a 400 foot elevation drop to the beach.

Wiley and Mildred Ramey discovered this spot on a long drive along the California coast in the 1950s. They made this town theirs with their inn and snack bar. After many years, the little town built by the Rameys has become a beautiful spot to stay and even enjoy a wedding.

If you’re interested in finding out more about the Ragged Point In, its history, or want a room for the night, check out the Ragged Point Inn.

With no winner this week, a big thanks for all those participated. Check out next week for a chance to win the $50 gift certificated to SpaFinder!

  19. Bhah! I keep missing this. Next one’s mine!
